Astghik Markosyan: Way to Salzburg International Medical Seminar

The American Austrian Foundation organizes Salzburg International Medical Seminars for doctors over the past 20 years, which not only contribute to the enrichment of practical and theoretical knowledge of physicians but also help them to establish personal contacts with foreign partners. During those years 901 Armenian doctors from our country participated in professional seminars.

We had a detailed interview about seminars with the coordinator of Salzburg International Medical Seminars in Armenia, Astghik Markosyan.

–     What does the program of Salzburg International Medical Seminars represent?

–    The program aims to provide professional assistance to healthcare systems of countries in transition, contributing to the enrichment of professional skills of human recourses, i.e. doctors.
It is a short term program, one week or a month. Only current doctors are eligible to participate. This is a medical education, which takes place through the exchange of experience. Around 30-40 doctors and lecturers from different countries participate in each professional seminar. Within the frameworks of the program they carry out exchange of experience, establish personal contacts and form a platform for further international cooperation.

–    How often the seminars are organized?

–    Approximately 20-30 different thematic seminars are organized.
It has been several years that so called ‘leadership seminars’ are being organized within the frameworks of the program, including medical education, quality assurance and patient safety, medical leadership, applied clinical research and medical informatics seminars.

The Seminar graduates have opportunity to apply three times for one month practice training in any Austrian clinic to enhance their clinical skills. This is called observation.

–   Those interested can register at www. aaf-online.org website, fill in the required personal details, download and complete the electronic version of documents. Based on the documents presented interview and an English test will be arranged.
