One of the largest medieval Armenian monastery complexes, Haghpat, has also been one of the largest educational centers of that time. People studied philosophy, rhetoric and theology there.
The complex consists of the Churches of the Holy Virgin, St. Nshan, and St. Grigor, theChapel, theCourtyard, theBell tower, a lot of Khachkars (cross stones) and etc. Outside the main structure, you can also find a triple arch, a wellspring, the Churches of the Virgin, Jgrashen, St. Sion, and Zoravark. Besides the churches you may also notice the Bridge of Jraghatsadzor, as well as the Castle of Kayanberd where the Church of the Holy Virgin of Dsevank is situated.
All the surrounding is decorated by beautiful and unique Kachkars.
Haghpat Monastery together with Sanahin is included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.
