Yerevan was founded on the initiative of Urartian king Argishti 1st in 782 BC. The city, built as a fortress, was to become the capital of the Republic of Armenia more than 2.5 millennia later.
Originally, Erebuni was inhabited by 6,600 soldiers, but a short time later it became the most important military center in the north of the Urartian state.
Erebuni had turned into Yerevan which is one of the few ancient cities that has a passport in the face of the cuneiform of King Argishti. The city is located in the Ararat valley.
The main Armenian capitals were also built in the Ararat valley. Being built in the Ararat valley the capitals Armavir, Yervandashat, Artashat, Vagharshapat, Dvin, Bagaran constitute a company with Erebuni-Yerevan.
