Veneers

 Veneer means a «protective layer» or a coating. It is an ultra-thin layer designed to be placed over a tooth (not fully) or to be attached to the tooth surface (fully in order to prevent the tooth from damage). Those cosmetic coatings made of modern materials can actually last quite long. This tooth restoration method continues to have high demand among patients as it ensures maximum aesthetic result in short period of time and without any pain.

The veneers can last up to ten years. Before applying this method the teeth should be completely treated in advance.

Indications to use veneers:

• Uneven teeth
• Damaged enamel because of various reasons
• Various enamel lesion if they are not of caries origin
• A tooth stains and changes in teeth color.

There are two main types of material used to fabricate a veneer: composite and ceramic.

Composite veneers may be placed by two methods:

• Directly when veneer is fixed over the patient's tooth by dental cement. This method is applied when there is a need to restore one or two teeth and it lasts for up to five years. The dentist fixes the veneer during one visit.
• Indirectly when the veneer is fabricated in a dental lab which in turn ensures better result and lasts longer.

Ceramic veneer may only be fabricated in dental lab. After preparing the teeth, a veneer crown is prepared, and then the permanent veneer covers the surface of tooth (before placing a permanent veneer, the patient's tooth is attached with temporal veneer). In contrast to composite veneers, ceramic veneers allow to restore more teeth. In addition to this they last longer, do not change color and make the teeth stronger.

Lumineers

Lumineers are types of ceramic veneers. They are ultra – thin layers made of very strong ceramic. The thickness of these cosmetic veneers vacillates between the limits of 0.2 -0.3 mm. The demand for these cosmetic veneers is quite high despite of its high price. That is due to its best aesthetic result and long duration. Lumineers are possible to attach to any surface of tooth, such as filling, crown or even dent. They are placed during two visits.

Indications to use lumineers:

• Diastema (the distance between the teeth) and uneven teeth
• Enamel cracks or broken teeth
• Change in the color of teeth. Lumineers can be used as an alternative method of teeth whitening which will change the color of teeth for a long period of time as lumineers never change their color.
• Remove the defects of old orthopedic constructions (metal ceramic crown fractures, root exposure of the edge of the crown) without removing them from the tooth.

Advantages of lumineers:

• For placing lumineers there is no need to hew teeth priorly
• With the help of lumineers it is possible to make the teeth to look even without using braces
• Lumineers can be used instead of teeth whitening.

Ceramic inlays

Very often the tooth crowns are damaged or fillings fall out. In such cases teeth can be restored with the help of inlays, which give the tooth a second life. Restoring tooth with inlays does not take a very long time.

Ceramic inlays are suitable to use when the 1/3 of the tooth is decayed but the tooth is still there. Ceramic inlays allow the dentist to match the colour of the replacement perfectly to that of your own teeth. It will be hard to tell the difference between your natural teeth and the replacement. Saliva and bacteria do not change the color of ceramic inlays. Those types of inlays are also resistant to the influence of external factors.

Composite inlays are similar to natural tooth structure, consisting of a mixture of inorganic materials and liquid synthetic material. Such inlays have excellent plastic feature and high aesthetic quality. The advantages of composite inlays are: durability, high effectiveness of tooth restoration, possibility to work out in details and maximum aesthetic result.

Zirconium oxide inlays are recent achievements of tooth restoration in aesthetic dentistry combined with the metal base and a new type of ceramic coating which matches the colour of the replacement perfectly to that of patient’s own tooth enamel. The installation of such inlays does not provoke allergies or require tooth depulpation, which means that tooth remains. The zirconium oxide inlays are made during two visits.
