An occlusion is the relationship between the upper and lower teeth when they approach each other as the jaws close. There are two types of occlusion: physiological and pathological. The formation of normal (physiological) occlusion depends on child's lifestyle starting from the day of his birth when is fed with breast milk. As baby grows it is important that he does not develop bad habits, such as taking the figure to mouth, breathing through mouth, biting off pen or pencil, etc.

The aim of orthodontics for 13-17 years old adolescents is to prevent dental anomalies. Malocclusion correction and formation of even teeth contribute to the possible prevention of caries and periodontal diseases.

As the final formation of occlusion is done at the age of 13-14, it is easy to «ruin» it if not prevented on time. Later, it is certainly possible to correct it but very serious resources and interventions will be needed for the treatment, such as bracket system and dental surgeries.

At this age, treatment for children is carried out by using removable orthodontic devices (braces) which the child wears during a certain time of a day and can be easily removed before meal.

It should be noted that for children aged 12-13 years old orthodontic treatment is carried out with full bracket system which remains fixed during the whole period of treatment.
